The formation of spin-off companies plays a significant part in the promotion of results of research carried out in the laboratories of the Université Catholique de Louvain. UCL has a long tradition of setting up technology enterprises, notably the formation of Success Stories IBA and IRIS in the nineteen eighties.
To date, 45 spin-off companies have been created on the basis of technologies, patents and expertise developped at UCL. Among these, 3 companies are currently quoted on the Stock Exchange with an estimated total capitalisation of €700 m. on 31/12/2007.
With a combined turnover of €380 m. and 2,434 job created (2008 figures), the spin-off companies of UCL make a considerable contribution to the economic development of the region.
